The influence of weather conditions on the formation of grain crops with the current state of irrigation in the South of the country is not the most important factor in the formation of the crop.
This was in an exclusive comment AgroPortal.ua told Deputy General Director of "NIBULON" production Konstantin Khmelnitsky.
According to him, the lack of rain in September 2017 did not allow to receive developed winter crops for the period of growing season, but the super soft winter conditions, with sufficient precipitation allowed the winter wedge to overwinter without significant losses.
"The late terms of renewal of the spring vegetation, high temperatures and absence of precipitation in April and early May of this year forced the plants to pass the main spring development phases in a short time. Lack of control over these processes led to a shortage of grain yields by 10-15% compared to the previous year, "Konstantin Khmelnitsky said.
In general, adds the deputy general director of NIBULON, the restoration of the irrigation system in the South could lead to an increase in the yield of field crops by one-third or more to the average annual indicators.
"Regarding current weather conditions, it can be noted that they contributed to ripening of bread 7-10 days earlier than in previous years. In this there is a plus, early harvesting will allow agrarians to prepare the soil in advance for sowing the winter crop group and qualitatively process the fields for the following crops and look with optimism in 2019, "he concluded.
